A business portfolio lets you organize and manage Meta assets such as a Page, Instagram account, and ad account for a business. The ad account holds campaigns and advertising spending. Before setup, answer this question: “Which business will own these assets?” Correct ownership and orderly access management make later team changes and agency relationships easier to understand.
Investigate existing assets first
Your business may already have a portfolio or ad account. Ask authorized team members for the existing Page, Instagram, portfolio, and ad account IDs. Record who owns each asset in a small inventory. Two accounts with the same name are not necessarily the same account; compare their IDs. Solving an access problem by opening a new account may fragment older campaigns, payment records, and the business's setup.
Prepare information and responsible people
Prepare the business name, an accessible business email address, an authorized person, and the basic details for the planned ad account. Check the person signing in has access and two-factor authentication. Separately decide who will manage billing and payment information. Accurate ownership details matter; do not fill the business name field with temporary project notes. Keep your business details consistent for any verification steps that may be requested.
The ability to create accounts and access certain features may depend on Meta's conditions for the account concerned. Following these steps does not mean every business can create the same number of accounts or instantly access every feature. If a restriction appears, record the full warning and inspect the account's status.
Create the business portfolio
- Open Meta Business Suite using your authorized login.
- Find the business portfolio creation option through the business selector or settings.
- Enter the correct business name and requested contact information.
- Complete the verification or confirmation steps shown.
- Add the new portfolio's name and ID to your inventory.
Menu labels and steps may vary with your device or account. When you see “Business settings,” “Settings,” or a similar area, verify which portfolio is selected. Do not confuse a personal profile name with the business name. After setup, check that you can return to the correct portfolio's main workspace.
Distinguish creating an account from requesting access
The ad account management area may offer options to create a new account, add an existing one, or request access to an account belonging to another business. If you will manage your own business's ads, choose the option that fits its ownership arrangement. If you serve a client, request the necessary task access rather than adding the client's account as your own business's asset. Confirming without reading the ownership explanations may establish an arrangement that is difficult to correct later.
When creating a new account, consider its name, currency, and time zone carefully. These affect billing, reporting, and delivery schedules. Depending on the account's status, some changes may be unavailable or require a different account arrangement. Prepare the setup as a lasting business record.
An example account plan
For example, consider a store operating in Türkiye and selling its own products. The portfolio stays under the store's control, and the ad account is planned with a currency and time zone appropriate to its operations. The content employee receives Page tasks, and the advertising employee receives the necessary ad account tasks. An outside agency is given suitable access to the agreed assets. This is an example setup outline; every business need not use the same currency or permission arrangement.
Complete assets and billing preparations
Add the correct Facebook Page and Instagram account to the portfolio or arrange the necessary access. Match people using the ad account to their tasks. Review the options available to your business in payment settings and the conditions shown. Creating an account alone does not establish readiness to run ads. Payment, asset permissions, account status, and ad review are separate checks. Reviewing these pieces together before the first campaign can reduce unnecessary delays.
Common setup mistakes
Opening a new portfolio for every problem, making the agency the only authorized administrator, and treating an account name as proof of ownership are common mistakes. The presence of your business name in an account's name does not prove the business owns it. Another mistake is assigning the same access level to every employee. Define an access removal process for people who leave when setting up the system. Plan permission reviews as a regular team responsibility.
Final checklist
- Existing assets were investigated and the need for another account assessed.
- The portfolio and ad account owners and responsible people are known.
- Currency and time zone were reviewed before launch.
- Page, Instagram, and ad account IDs were recorded.
- People and partner access match task requirements.
- Payment readiness, account status, and security checks are complete.
